Have you ever noticed that whenever a light bulb blows, you have never got the right one that you need to replace it?
We have all got a spare stash of light bulbs tucked away somewhere. But even though that collection probably contains bayonet and screw in light bulbs of various wattages, you can never seem to find exactly what you need.
So here is a tip that will ensure you should never run out of those essentials. Firstly if you don’t already have somewhere that you keep all your spare light bulbs, now is the time to create somewhere. You need a reasonable sized box for this, particularly if you have a lot of larger sized light bulbs. And of course you will need to keep them all stored safely in the boxes you buy them in to begin with. The boxes will have the wattage information on them which you will need to know.
Make sure the box is clearly labelled and that everyone in the house knows where it is. If you have the time you should also sort out all the light bulbs you currently have, and see how many of each one there is. In addition to this be sure to figure out which ones you are missing.
A good way to do this is to go through every room in the house and make a note of which light bulbs are required in each one. Check lamps and spotlights as well as all your ceiling lights. It might take a while to do this, but it is the only way to be sure that you have everything you need. Jot down the wattage and type of bulb for each one and then compare that list to the bulbs you already have. All you need to do then is to make a shopping list for what is required and you can go and get them straightaway.
In addition to this you should also get into good habits every time you decide to buy a new ceiling light. Work out how many bulbs you will need for the light – some may take several – and buy more than you need. This will give you at least a couple of spares for each light you have in the house.
From that point on, whenever a light bulb blows you can be reasonably confident that you will be able to instantly replace it. As we all know, light bulbs have a habit of blowing when it is getting dark and the shops have just closed. So if you don’t have any you will have to go through that night without a light until you can buy more – and that isn’t always very safe to do.
It might seem a bit involved to do all this, but it will stop you from finding yourself without a light at an inopportune moment. Furthermore you will know exactly where to go to find the light bulb you need – so you will never come unstuck again.
