Every time you walk into a home store you will be met by a selection of ceiling lights of all descriptions. Some of these may well be quite plain and simple, using traditional designs to create an unobtrusive look.
But others are far more ornate. They may even be classed as being outlandish – and they are nothing if not eye catching!
These modern designs can be too much for some people. But are they too much for you?
You might think you don’t like loud and outlandish ceiling lights. But it doesn’t pay to dismiss them out of hand right from the start. Modern ceiling lights come in all types and sizes, and one of them might just fit your needs perfectly.
The trick is to match the light to the room you are going to put it in. That sounds incredibly simple but in fact you need to think about much more than just the decoration in the rest of the room.
For example, you need to consider which room you are buying the ceiling light for. Is it for the dining room? Perhaps it is for a lounge area? Maybe the hallway is the room that is being done up and decorated?
The room itself will help you to decide which light is required for that space. For example in a hallway you will need something practical which gives off a lot of light. A fancy uplighter might not be the best choice here – modern or otherwise. But a dining room might benefit from such a light.
Your choice of ceiling light always tells people something about you. You chose it after all, so you should only put outlandish and loud lights in a room where you are happy for them to be seen. Some people like to keep their most eye catching and bizarre ceiling light choices for their bedroom for example. This is an area which is seen only by them and not by the average guest. So it doesn’t matter how it looks, provided you like it.
Other areas such as the hallway we mentioned before need to be lit practically. This doesn’t prevent you from using a modern and more outlandish light, but you need to be sure that the eye catching features don’t outstrip its practical ones.
Some ceiling lights for example require lots of little bulbs, whereas others are lit by just one. So you need to ask yourself whether that spectacular looking light in the showroom is going to be practical to use in your own home.
As you can see, there is definitely room for both types of lights in your home. All you have to do is decide which ones are right in which situation. And of course they should all appeal to your own sense of taste and décor.
So the next time you go shopping for ceiling lights, don’t just marvel at how good they look in the showroom. Remember that they must look equally good in your home as well. That is what will give you the best results of all.
