How much attention should you pay to size when you are shopping for ceiling lights?
The truth is that many people don’t give enough attention to this topic, and yet if you get the sizing wrong you could end up with the wrong light for the wrong situation.
The problem occurs most often if you are in a big showroom which features lots of different ceiling lights all in the one place. Because there are lots of lights all together on a huge ceiling, you have no way of knowing how big they really are. It looks deceptive, and that isn’t good if you are buying without knowing the measurements first.
In a sense then, buying online is actually better because you are more likely to take notice of the measurements. This is because you can look to see how wide the ceiling lights are and take a proper measurement of them to hold up against your ceiling. How likely are you to do that if you are looking at ceiling lights in a store?
You also need to think about the size of the room a certain light will be going in. If you have a small room then you need a smaller ceiling light as well. A larger light will swamp the ceiling and look too cramped in the space you have available. Conversely too small a light situated in a big room will virtually disappear as it will have too much space around it. In this case you might want to get two lights and put them in separate corners or places in the room. You will need to allow for wiring them in to another location though.
Another thing which some people don’t think about is the distance the lights come down from the ceiling. While most ceiling lights stay quite close to the ceiling some of them dangle down further than others. In this case if they come down quite a way and you happen to have a low ceiling, it can be a pain. This is particularly true if they have a cord by which you set a ceiling fan going as well.
So you see there is a lot to think about before you buy a ceiling light of any kind. If you aren’t careful you could end up with something that isn’t ideal for the space.
